Accessibility Statement
Denman Place Mall is committed to making our shopping centre and our website accessible to everyone, including people with disabilities. We believe that a welcoming community space starts with removing barriers, both physical and digital, so that every visitor can find what they need with dignity and ease.
1. Our Commitment
We aim to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA, published by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). These guidelines explain how to make web content more accessible to people with a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, motor, and cognitive impairments. We also work to meet the spirit and intent of the Accessible British Columbia Act and the Accessible Canada Act.
2. Measures We Take
To support an accessible experience on denmanmall.com, we work to:
- provide descriptive alternative text for meaningful images
- maintain a logical heading structure and clear page landmarks (header, navigation, main, footer)
- ensure interactive elements (buttons, links, menus) are operable by keyboard and labeled for assistive technology
- maintain sufficient colour contrast between text and background
- use responsive layouts that scale to 200% zoom and adapt to small screens without loss of content
- avoid auto-playing media and provide pause controls on the homepage slider
- respect the operating system's reduced-motion preference where animation is used
- use
font-display: swapso text remains readable while fonts load
3. On-Site Accessibility
The shopping centre is located at street level on Denman Street with step-free access through the main entrance. Most tenant storefronts are accessible from the interior corridor. Elevators and seating are available within the building. If you need information about a specific store's accessibility, please contact that business directly or reach out to our team and we will help connect you.
4. Conformance Status
This website is partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 Level AA. "Partially conformant" means that some parts of the content do not yet fully meet the standard. Known limitations include embedded third-party content (such as the contact form iframe) over which we have limited control. We are working to address remaining gaps as part of ongoing site maintenance.
5. Assistive Technology Compatibility
denmanmall.com is designed to be compatible with current versions of major browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge) on desktop and mobile, and with screen readers including NVDA, JAWS, VoiceOver, and TalkBack. Pages are built with semantic HTML and progressively enhanced so that core information remains available even when JavaScript is disabled.
6. Feedback and Reporting a Barrier
We welcome your feedback. If you encounter an accessibility barrier on this website, need information in an alternative format, or have suggestions for how we can improve, please contact us. We aim to respond to accessibility feedback within five business days.
Email us
When reporting a barrier, please include the page address (URL), a description of the issue, and the browser or assistive technology you were using if you can.
7. Sustainability and Accessibility
We see accessibility and sustainability as connected practices: both ask us to design with care for people and the planet over the long term. The site uses optimised font formats (woff2 only), modern image formats (WebP, AVIF), and a lean stylesheet to reduce data transfer and energy use, which also tends to improve performance for visitors on low-bandwidth connections or older devices.
8. Ongoing Improvement
Accessibility is a process, not a destination. We periodically review new and updated pages against WCAG 2.1 AA and update this statement when our practices change. If a specific issue affects your ability to use the site today, please tell us. We will work with you to provide the information you need by another means while we fix it.
